Manchester City will reportedly be without a key player to start the season as Rodri is set to miss the Community Shield and first matchday of the Premier League.
Sky Sports reports that the Spain captain will undergo minor back surgery, which will render him ineligible for at least the first two fixtures of Man City's 2026-27 campaign, against Arsenal and Bournemouth, respectively.
Rodri was a major part of Spain's World Cup triumph earlier this month, with the influential midfielder winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player. As captain, the 30-year-old led La Roja to a dominant World Cup campaign, with the team allowing just a single goal against through eight matches.
His presence with the Sky Blues is similarly important, as Rodri has been part of a team that has won 13 trophies during his seven seasons with the Premier League club. In 2024, Rodri won the Ballon d'Or, following a season in which Man City won the Premier League title, and Spain won Euro 2024.
