Stenhousemuir capitalise on Inverness’ cup duties to top William Hill League One
Stenhousemuir took advantage of Inverness’ cup duties to move to the top of the William Hill League One table.
Inverness will play in the Scottish Challenge Cup final on Sunday, and they will return to league action two points behind Stenhousemuir, who eased to a 3-0 victory over Hamilton.
The hosts took a stranglehold on the match in the opening half an hour, with Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Ross Taylor putting Stenhousemuir two up, while Gregor Buchanan completed the scoring nine minutes after the break.
Third-placed Alloa were also victorious, with Kurtis Roberts’ 52nd-minute goal earning them a 1-0 win at Cove Rangers.
Bottom-of-the-table Kelty Hearts closed to within two points of Hamilton with a 1-1 draw against Queen of the South, who lost ground on Alloa above them.
Queen of the South took the lead through Jordan Allan in the 51st minute but then had Jack Hannah sent off and Sam Fisher levelled for Kelty seven minutes from time.
Blair Lyons netted in the second half in Montrose’s 1-0 win over East Fife.
East Kilbride remain a point ahead of Spartans at the top of William Hill League Two after both claimed victories on Saturday.
John Robertson and Connor Young put the leaders two up in the second half, and they held on despite Aidan Smith pulling one back 10 minutes from time.
All the goals in Spartans’ 3-0 victory over Edinburgh City also came in the second half, with Marc McNulty, Mark Stowe and Ayrton Sonkur netting.
Clyde, who sit 12 points behind in third, were 3-1 winners over Stirling.
Marley Redfern and Scott Williamson scored either side of a Robbie McNab equaliser for Stirling before Redfern made sure of the points in the 77th minute.
Fourth-placed Elgin are now five points behind Clyde after losing 2-1 at Forfar.
Martin Rennie put the hosts ahead and Scott Shepherd added the second from the penalty spot, with Kane Hester pulling one back before half-time.
Evan Dunne cancelled out Scott Honeyman’s opener five minutes from time to earn Stranraer a 1-1 draw with struggling Dumbarton.
