'Still one of the teams to beat!' - Former Manchester City star Sergio Aguero weighs in on Premier League title rival

Liverpool are still Premier Legaue title rivals to Manchester City under Arne Slot after a terrific start to the new season, believes Sergio Aguero.

The Reds have began a new era at Anfield in imperious form, with the Dutchman delivering three wins from three across his opening few weeks at the helm.

Following on from Klopp, who won every major honour available during his time on Merseyside, was expected to be a daunting task for Slot this term.

But with them tied neck-and-neck with Pep Guardiola's City, former Citizens favourite Aguero feels they will be close contenders, providing they can go the distance.

"Liverpool started really strong, especially considering the end of the Klopp era," Aguero told Stake.com when asked about their potential.

"They've proved to still be one of the teams to beat to get the title, just like it has been over the past few seasons.

"But then again, it's not about the start of the season, it's about landing the finish. The Premier League is all about consistency, so that's the element to make note of.”

Liverpool have been aided in their flying start by a back-to-form Mohamed Salah, who has formed a thrilling wing partnership with Luis Diaz so far this term.

As City look to blood their own fresh wideman duo in the shape of Jeremy Doku and Savinho, Aguero thinks that the latter may not match them now, but could rival the Reds pair.

"Diaz and Salah have more tenure in the Premier League and more time together than Savinho and Doku," he added. "That makes it harder to compare.

"However, neither of [Doku or Savino] is the best pair in modern times. Salah and Diaz are a scoring combination.

"They can assist well, and they are very in sync with their teammates. Doku and Savinho need time, but their potential is through the roof.”
