Tottenham goalscorer Joao Palhinha hails 'amazing feeling' as Spurs stay up

A nervy feeling throughout Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turned to jubilation after Joao Palhinha struck in the 42nd minute, scoring the goal that ultimately secured the victory. Spurs had come into the final matchday embroiled in a relegation battle with West Ham United, who also won on Sunday, and the victory over the Toffees provided the required breathing room as the North London club remained in the English top flight.

For Palhinha, who dedicated the goal to his two sons and parents, Sunday's victory was more indicative of Tottenham's potential than the struggles they've endured throughout the campaign.

"It's an amazing feeling after a really tough season," he told Sky Sports.

"A lot of things happened this season but we showed today what we can do. After a bad season like this one we showed up as a collective and had amazing support from the fans.

"The club will grow up with this season and we know what we have to do in the future. It's a big pleasure to play here with a top coach and top team-mates. We have to celebrate even if we didn't finish the position we deserve as Tottenham."
