Cooper Rush will start for the second straight game as the Dallas Cowboys head to MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants on Monday.
Rush started in Dak Prescott's place last week as the Cowboys defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17, with the 28-year-old racking up 235 passing yards and one touchdown pass. While not putting up overwhleming numbers, Rush's performance prompted Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones to openly ponder whether the backup quarterback could permanently replace Prescott as the starter.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy moved quickly to dispel such a notion, stating that Prescott would return as the starter as soon as next week.
That leaves at least one more game for Rush to impress, this time against a Giants team that has leapt to the top of the NFC East standings after two games played.
The Giants have hardly been dominant in their two wins thus far, but the results speak for themselves and New York sits as one of just six remaining NFL teams still sporting a perfect record. Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott credits the Giants' increased defensive focus for their early season success.
"I think on film you can visually see that they're playing a little bit harder defense this year," Elliott said. "It's a little bit different scheme, they bring a lot of pressures."
