David Benavidez and Dmitry Bivol both have fights coming up in May, but a meeting between the pair still appears to be some way off.
Benavidez will make his cruiserweight bow against Zurdo Ramirez on May 2, and victory in Las Vegas will see him become world champion at a new weight before a potential move to heavyweight.
Victory for both men will see speculation linking them to a fight, but each fighter will have plenty of options, so it is not guaranteed that a showdown between Benavidez and Bivol will take place.
Benavidez may want to unify belts at cruiserweight, and there is also the possibility that he could jump up again and target fights in boxing’s marquee division.

Bivol has a readymade rematch with Canelo Alvarez waiting, and there is also the matter of settling his rivalry with Artur Beterbiev, with the score currently 1-1.
Despite both men having plenty of directions they can move in, the boxing world is speaking about a potential clash, and Shakur Stevenson is the latest to have his say.
“I’d rather see the Benavidez [fight]. Beterbiev deserve a trilogy, technically, because of the first fight. I thought that Bivol won the first fight. I think that Benavidez and Bivol is another fight that is one of the biggest and best fights in boxing,” said Stevenson when speaking to Cigar Talk Boxing.
“I don’t know if it’s the biggest but one of the best, competitive-wise. I’m leaning towards Bivol, but I know that it will be tough with Benavidez with his pressure.”
