'Eubank Jr. does not want to fight me' claims British and Commonwealth champion Simpson

Simpson produced one of the best performances of his career on Saturday night when he beat Troy Williamson in an action-packed 12-round rematch. 

Regaining the British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles in the process, Simpson is ready to make the step up to world level with Barnsley's Oakwell Stadium penned in for a big fight next summer. 

'I don't think Eubank Jr. would want to fight me' - Simpson

If Simpson continues to win, then a world title opportunity may present itself, but if that does not materialise, then perhaps a big money matchup with Eubank Jr. would satisfy that itch for a big fight night. 

Eubank Jr. is no stranger to selling out stadiums after his two encounters with Conor Benn last year, and after a long period of recovery, the 36-year-old is rumoured to make a comeback later this year.

In an exclusive interview with DAZN News, the idea of facing Eubank Jr. was pitched to Simpson, and while it is an opportunity he would take with both hands, Simpson claimed that it would be a silly decision for Eubank Jr. to face him after such a big win. 

"I don't think he's interested in fighting anybody like me," Simpson said. "I would love to fight him at super middleweight, 100%. But I think the position that he's in, I'd be a bit naive to think that he'd want to fight me at Oakwell."

"He can make a lot of money fighting much easier opponents than me. I don't think it'd be smart to fight me in the position that I'm in at the minute."

Simpson Oakwell stadium return confirmed for next summer 

While Simpson is not allowed to get too far ahead with his future plans, he did confirm that a return to Oakwell, the home of Barnsley Football Club, will take place next summer. 

Before returning to training, Simpson is taking two weeks off to recover from his rematch with Williamson, and then is hoping to fight before the end of the year to set up a big 2027. 

"That'll happen, that will happen. As long as I keep winning, that will happen 100%," Simpson told DAZN News. 

Simpson then revealed a return to Oakwell would have taken place this summer if he had not lost to Williamson first time around. 

"I would have gone there this summer if I'd beat Troy. If if I would have beaten Troy in December, I probably would have been fighting there for a world title this summer.

"Troy got made mandatory for the IBF so I would have been made the mandatory if I beat Troy.

"It wasn't meant to be last year, but as long as I win probably my next two fights, we'll be going there next summer, whether it's for a world title, whatever it's for, but I will be going to Oakwell in June, July or August."
