Simpson supreme, a new Fury, Brook back: Five things we learned from boxing last week
Shields vs. Scott live on DAZN - Saturday

Callum Simpson proved revenge was sweet as he toppled Troy Williamson in the pair's Lonsdale Belt rematch in Leeds this past Saturday night.

Glory for the South Yorkshire star saw him reclaim both the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles at the First Direct Bank Arena.

But the duo were not the only men who saw new chapters written in their stories as August ticked towards the midway point in freewheeling style.

Here, DAZN News  looks back at the week in boxing - and picks out five key stories worth revisiting as we head for the next seven days.

Simpson overcomes Williamson in thrilling rematch

Watch the highlights

Simpson earns revenge

Ahead on the cards last December before his foe uncorked a monster stoppage, Simpson knew it was make-or-break this time.

He wrote his own destiny not too far up the M1 from his beloved Oakwell then, to take revenge for his title loss at the end of 2025.

Now, with his eyes on a world title opportunity, Simpson will seek to establish himself above domestic level. A busy slate awaits him.

McKenna rises to top

Across the Irish Sea, Aaron McKenna made good on his own promise of glory as he earned the IBF middleweight title in Dublin too.

The star helped further bridge the gap between Zuffa and the sport's old guard by winning a world crown atop their latest big show.

With Etinosa Oliha vanquished, the star will now be turning his attention towards securing a unification opportunity as soon as he can.

A new Fury on the scene...

There was a familiar name on the undercard for Simpson and Williamson's rematch - and now, it has another contender on-board.

James Dean Fury, cousin of heavyweight champion Tyson, made his debut with a super-middleweight win over Dzmitry Atrokhau.

The former was less than impressed with his own performance, having gone the distance - but there will still be plenty to grow.

...and an old one waits

Speaking of the senior Fury, 'The Gyspy King' is still waiting to lock in a date and venue for his encounter with Anthony Joshua too.

Originally slated for the United Kingdom, plans to move matters to the United States have been met with some significant pushback.

Either way, Fury has cast doubts on whether a bout will actually happen - but you would assume it is all part of his usual mind games.

Brook back in action?

It's been a hot minute - four years, in fact - since Kell Brook was in the ring for a competitive bout, defeating his arch-rival Amir Khan.

But the 40-year-old is set to mount a comeback later this year, revealing plans are afoot for him to contend a late 2026 contest too.

Rumours suggest Chris Eubank Jr. could be the man in the opposite corner. Either way, it promises to be a fascinating new chapter.
