Richardson Hitchins: Can he really get Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis or Devin Haney to fight him?

Hitchins (21-0, 8 KOs) put on a dominant performance to shut out Salas on all three scorecards (100-90x3). The New York native was ecstatic with his performance and proceeded to call out top names in the welterweight division like WBC champion Ryan Garcia and WBO titleholder Devin Haney and lightweight Gervonta "Tank" Davis.

You expect Hitchins to call those names. It's a smart move to keep your name in the headlines by calling out Davis, Garcia and Haney. But if Hitchins is going to be honest with himself, he isn't going to get those fights anytime soon and only has himself to blame.

At the beginning of the tenth and final round, you had the feeling if Hitchins would just put his foot on the gas pedal just a little bit, he could get Salas out of there. Salas was overmatched, overwhelmed, and couldn't counter anything Hitchins was throwing his way. 

For reasons that would leave this writer still scratching his head, Hitchins decided to get on his bicycle, prance around the ring, and avoid anything Salas would attempt, as he would be going for broke with nothing to lose. 

But Hitchins also had nothing to lose. He was up nine rounds and eating Salas' punches with ease. Instead, Hitchins was content to fight with caution when Salas was ripe for the picking. A stoppage win in New York City with the boxing world wanting to see how you'd look in a new weight class was right there staring Hitchins right in the face.

However, Hitchins blinked and was content with riding out the final three minutes to remain undefeated. 

The knock on Hitchins has been being conservative and being content with winning on points instead of a combination of being entertaining in the ring and using his superior boxing skills. And that's what he did on Sunday night. 

During his post-fight press conference, Hitchins claimed he had a pre-existing right-hand injury that affected his performance and his reluctance to attempt to put Salas away. It's an argument that's hard to buy, as he threw the right hand enough to where Hitchins could have put Salas away. 

There's no problem being a slick boxer. Pernell Whitaker made millions of dollars and had a Hall of Fame career. Same thing with Floyd Mayweather Jr. But you have to be entertaining and have charisma to you. Right now, Hitchins doesn't have that. 

Can he get it? Absolutely. 

People around him need to tell him that. If they don't, then Hitchins will be stuck in purgatory as Davis, Garcia, and Haney will go nowhere near him until he brings something to the table.
