The trio became the first Last Chance Qualifier team ever to win an ALGS World Championship, with Blinkzr also claiming tournament MVP honours. Although Sentinels finished seventh in the Americas Pro League this season, few teams possess greater championship pedigree, and another deep international run would surprise nobody.

If Sentinels are the reigning world champions, VK Gaming are the defending Esports World Cup champions. The organisation claimed the Apex Legends title at EWC 2025, proving it could handle the unique pressure of the Match Point Finals. A third-place finish in the APAC South Pro League suggests the squad arrives in Paris in strong form once again, and few teams boast a better record when the stakes are highest.

Meanwhile, Ninjas in Pyjamas.eStar has been the benchmark in North America throughout 2026. Cole "Cole" Wilson, Ethan "Vein" Kalb and Kurev topped the Americas Pro League through disciplined rotations, consistent team fighting and remarkable reliability. That consistency made them one of the hardest teams to eliminate during the regular season, but the challenge now is translating regional dominance into an international championship.

Then there is Team Falcons, a roster that almost always enters major tournaments among the favourites. Led by Apex Legends legend Phillip "ImperialHal" Dosen alongside Zachary "Gild" Dennis and Ben "Wxltzy" Walton, Falcons possess one of the most experienced line-ups in the game. Despite finishing fourth in the Americas Pro League, they have repeatedly shown they can deliver when the pressure is greatest, making them a dangerous prospect if they remain in contention once the tournament reaches Match Point.

What is the format?

Apex Legends at the Esports World Cup follows the ALGS Split 1 Playoffs format.

The tournament begins with Pool Play, where teams compete to secure favourable positions heading into the bracket stage.

From there, teams progress through the Winners Bracket and Elimination Brackets, with the top-performing squads advancing to the Match Point Finals.

Unlike traditional esports finals, Match Point does not simply reward the team with the highest score.

Instead, teams must first reach the Match Point threshold before becoming eligible to win the tournament. Once a team reaches Match Point, it must still win a subsequent match to be crowned champion, creating one of the most dramatic and unpredictable formats in esports.

Why does the Club Championship matter?

Apex Legends is one of the first opportunities for organisations to earn points in the race for the Esports World Cup Club Championship.

Every club begins the tournament level on points, making a strong performance in Apex Legends an important first step towards the overall title.
