The Brazilian arrived at the Bernabéu as one of the most exciting young players in the world, and he has since lived up to that early billing. 

Following two assists on his full debut for the Spanish giants, the forward has gone on to become a focal point in the club's attack and recently signed a new mega long-term deal with the club.  

Having scored in two Champions League final wins and won two La Liga titles, the now modest-looking outlay has been more than worth the money. 

9. Rodrygo - Santos to Real Madrid 2019

• Fee : £39m 

A year after Vinicius arrived in Spain, Madrid repeated the trick and recruited another 18-year-old in Santos' Rodrygo. 

The deal has proved to be another success, too, with the attacker closing in on 300 appearances for the club and having been part of a side that has won two La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues. 

Despite links to a move elsewhere, he remains a major part of the Real attack. 

8. Endrick - Palmeiras to Real Madrid, 2024

A third attempt to recruit the best young Brazilian talent hasn't quite worked out as well for Real Madrid and striker Endrick.

The talented teen has managed only 40 games and scored 7 goals since joining the club in 2024, and was sent on loan to Lyon in Ligue 1 last season. 

Still only 20, and back in Spain under the watch of Jose Mourinho, there's still time for him to fulfil his undoubted promise.

7. Anthony Martial - Monaco to Manchester United, 2015

Hard to believe that Martial's move to Old Trafford was now over a decade ago, and still hard to fathom that United broke the bank on the player.

A goal on his debut against Liverpool set the scene for what fans hoped would be the start of something, but the Frenchman never really lived up to his early billing. 

2020 did see a career high of 23 goals and a club Player of the Year award, but it was a rare high in a ten-year stint in which he never made a first-team spot his own. He's now in Mexico with Monterrey. 

6. Romeo Lavia - Southampton to Chelsea, 2023

• Fee: £58m

Chelsea have spent so much money on young players it's surprising not to see more of their deals on this list, but the deal for Lavia remains their most expensive teen. 

After just one full season of Premier League football with Southampton, the Blues saw enough to break the bank and recruit the midfielder in 2023. 

However, his stint at Stamford Bridge has been plagued by injury, and he has managed only 40 appearances in three seasons. 

5. Matthijs de Ligt - Ajax to Juventus, 2019

• Fee: £67.5m 

De Ligt became the first defender to win the Golden Boy award in 2018 and, a year later, was part of the Ajax team that made the Champions League semi-finals. 

Therefore, it was no surprise the big boys came calling, and at 19 he moved to Juventus, where he'd taste Scudetto glory by winning Serie A. 

After three seasons in Turin, he moved to Bayern Munich before joining Manchester United in 2024.

Moving into the top four on the list is the newest mover, Manchester City newboy Ayyoub Bouaddi. 

It's been a rapid rise for the midfielder, who only made his international debut in the Spring, but went on to be one of the standout performers during this summer's World Cup. 

He may have some Rodri-sized boots to fill in Manchester, but he's already shown how quickly he can adapt.

3. Yan Diomande - RB Leipzig to Real Madrid, 2026

Real Madrid have a history of signing some of the biggest names in the game, but one of their biggest ever outlays came this summer in the form of teenager Diomande. 

The winger had long been linked with a move to Liverpool, and after shining at the World Cup, it then looked like PSG would be his destination. 

However, Madrid is his new home, and he will be part of a new-look side under Jose Mourinho.

It's a bit of an eyebrow-raiser to see Atletico so near the top, especially when you consider if the deal for Felix was ever really worth the amount they splashed out on him as a teenager. 

34 goals in 131 appearances don't look like numbers of a £100m footballer, but the Portuguese did help the club win La Liga in 2020. 

Following a loan move to Barcelona and two unsuccessful stints at Chelsea, Felix is now in Saudi Arabia playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Al-Nassr.

The most expensive teenager in football? Well, that label falls on the shoulders of Kylian Mbappe, whose move from Monaco to PSG still ranks as the second-biggest deal in history. 

The forward won the league title in six of the seven seasons he played in the French capital, and went on to become the club's record goalscorer. 

However, the lure of Real Madrid was too tempting, and he left PSG in 2024 to sign for the Spanish giants.
