Star duo reveal why Welbeck will be crucial for new-look Chelsea

Danny Welbeck’s shock move to Chelsea may have raised eyebrows last week — but it delighted Joao Pedro and Moises Caicedo.
Welbeck, 35, was handed a two-year deal after leaving Brighton to add some much-needed experience to Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The switch marked a departure from BlueCo’s favoured policy of bringing in young players on long-term deals, with a view to their market value increasing considerably.
Jordan Henderson, 36, quickly followed after his departure from Brentford as Chelsea’s owners changed their approach in the hope of avoiding another underwhelming season.
And Welbeck’s arrival was warmly welcomed by Pedro, who previously played alongside the veteran striker at Watford and Brighton. He said: “Personally, Danny is a very important person for me in life.
“When I came to England, I didn’t speak English, but he always tried to be around me to support me and help me develop.
“This will now be the third time we have played together and I think, as he did with me in the past, he will give support to everyone in the squad.
“Danny is this guy. He is very helpful and wants the best for everyone around him and for the team.
“Everyone knows he is a top player. I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again and I think he will be a very good person to have in the group.”
Having made his first appearance for the Blues on Wednesday as they lost 1-0 to Juventus, Welbeck is likely to get more minutes under his belt against AC Milan tomorrow.
And Caicedo is equally pleased to see his old Brighton team-mate in a Chelsea shirt. He added: “When he arrived here, I gave him a hug because I was so happy he signed.
“As a player and as a person, Danny is top. He helped me a lot when I arrived at Brighton.
“He was so important for me. To have him here at Chelsea, it feels good.
“I am so happy to have him here and he is going to help us a lot. With his mentality, he has everything and he is going to be so important for us.”
After netting 14 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions last season, Chelsea are banking on Welbeck being more than just a positive influence in the dressing room.
