What are the most expensive transfers in Premier League history?

The Premier League's transfer merry-go-round is in full swing now we're just a month away from the new season and clubs have been busy splashing the cash.

Already this summer we've seen Tottenham, Manchester City and now Chelsea unload triple-million-figure sums on a new player, with Morgan Rogers being the latest £100m plus name in the top flight.

So where does the England man now sit on the list of the Premier League's all-time most expensive player list?

2018 feels like a long time ago now, and even more so when you consider the fee that Barcelona paid Liverpool for Coutinho and what then transpired for the Brazilian.

Having been the star of the show for the Reds in the pre-Jurgen Klopp era, it prompted Barca to spend a record fee on the forward, but it didn't turn out to be money well spent.

He won two La Liga titles but never really hit his Anfield heights, and was back in the Premier League by 2022 when he moved to Aston Villa.

Enzo Fernandez
Benfica to Chelsea, 2023
£106m

Chelsea have passed the £100m barrier on three occasions, and the first time they hit the triple digits was the signing of Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentine signed in January 2023, just months after shining in his country's run to winning the World Cup in Qatar, and has since become a regular member of the Blues' midfield.

Closing in on 175 appearances, Fernandez has won the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup with the West Londoners, but has been linked with a possible move away this summer.

Florian Wirtz
Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool, 2025
£107m

Liverpool went all out last summer, and part of the recruitment drive was the purchase of the highly-rated German.

Wirtz had been part of the Leverkusen side that went unbeaten in 2024 and won the league and cup double in Germany, and a big move had long been mooted for the attacking midfielder.

It took some time for the 23-year-old to find his feet at Anfield, but there were signs late last season that Liverpool are beginning to see what they paid the big bucks for.

Elliot Anderson
Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, 2026
£116m

The rise of Anderson as one of the best midfielders for club and country has been rapid since moving to The City Ground in 2024.

A player of supreme control and calmness in the middle of the park, it was always going to be a matter of time before one of the big guns came calling.

In the end it was Man City, who chose Anderson to spearhead their new Guardiola-less era, who made him Britain's most expensive footballer...for a few weeks at least.

Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa to Chelsea, 2026

Chelsea have broken their transfer record once again and made Morgan Rogers the third player they've spent over £100m on.

Apparently, Rogers chose a move to Stamford Bridge ahead of Arsenal despite the lack of European football for the West London club.

He'll now link up with his former Man City cohort Cole Palmer, where we'll see a double dose of cold celebrations this season.

Alexander Isak
Newcastle to Liverpool, 2025
£125m

The most expensive player in the Premier League right now is Liverpool's Swedish striker, who's hoping for a much better season in 2026-27.

After a long protracted transfer last summer, Isak struggled throughout the campaign with form and fitness, and Liverpool are yet to see the value in their record outlay.

His showing at the World Cup seemed to suggest the real Isak is back, which is good news for new boss Andoni Iraola.
