British triathlon great Jonny Brownlee has announced his retirement from professional competition, bringing an end to one of the most successful careers in the history of the sport.

Why has Jonny Brownlee retired?
Brownlee had hoped to end his professional career by racing at the Supertri Pro Series Final in Jersey, but an ongoing injury ultimately ruled him out.
The Yorkshireman said his body had made the decision clear, bringing the curtain down on a career that began at international level two decades ago.
Brownlee will not be walking away from triathlon entirely, however, and plans to continue training and taking part in selected events away from professional racing.
