Sam Long delivered a commanding performance to win IRONMAN 70.3 Boise as the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series visited Idaho for the first time, while Kirsten Kasper produced a stunning late surge to claim victory in a thrilling women's race.
Long took control midway through the 90km bike leg before backing it up with the fastest run split of the day to secure the 22nd IRONMAN 70.3 victory of his career by almost five minutes.
Earlier, Kasper emerged victorious from a gripping three-way battle with Hannah Berry and Hanne De Vet, pulling clear in the closing kilometres to secure her first Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series victory of the season.
Few athletes race more aggressively than Sam Long, and the American once again showed why he is one of the stars of middle-distance triathlon.
After remaining firmly in contention during the swim, Long made his decisive move during the 90km bike leg, steadily building a lead that none of his rivals could match.
The American then removed any doubt over the outcome with the fastest run split of the day, clocking an impressive 1:10:45 to cross the line in 3:32:25 and claim victory by 4:56.
Ari Klau completed an American one-two after finishing second in 3:37:21, while Canada's Blake Harris rounded out the podium after edging Vincent Luis by just seven seconds. Switzerland's Ben Faeh completed the top five.
The women's race remained on a knife edge deep into the run as Kirsten Kasper, Hannah Berry and Hanne De Vet traded positions during an enthralling contest.
With just six kilometres remaining, all three athletes still had victory within reach before Kasper found another gear in the closing stages.
The American overtook Berry late on and continued to pull away, eventually crossing the finish line in 4:00:50 to win by 1 minute and 15 seconds.
Berry secured second place in 4:02:05, while Belgium's Hanne De Vet completed the podium after another strong Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series performance.
Lydia Russell finished fourth ahead of New Zealand's Rebecca Clarke, who rounded out the top five.
