Laura Philipp returns after dominant IRONMAN Kalmar victory

Philipp could hardly arrive in Austria in better form.

The 2024 IRONMAN world champion won IRONMAN Kalmar earlier this month in 8:13:37, finishing almost 19 minutes clear of the field and setting a new course record.

She now drops back to the 70.3 distance just 15 days later, with another valuable haul of IRONMAN Pro Series points available in Austria.

Among those looking to challenge Philipp will be home favourite Lisa Perterer, who finished second at Zell am See-Kaprun in 2025.

Marta Lagownik, India Lee, Rebecca Anderbury, Nikki Bartlett and fellow German Daniela Kleiser are also among the names in a strong professional women's field.

Jelle Geens and Fabian Kraft headline men's race

The men's field also features several athletes with strong records over the 70.3 distance.

Two-time defending IRONMAN 70.3 world champion Jelle Geens heads to Austria ahead of his bid for another world title in Nice.

Geens finished second at Zell am See-Kaprun in 2024, but will face the man who claimed victory at the event last year.

Germany's Fabian Kraft returns as the defending champion and will look to repeat his 2025 success on one of the most distinctive courses on the IRONMAN 70.3 calendar.

Trevor Foley is another name to watch, with the American arriving in Austria firmly in contention in the men's IRONMAN Pro Series standings.

What is the IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun course?

IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun combines three very different challenges across the spectacular Austrian landscape.

The race begins with a 1.9km swim in Lake Zell, with athletes surrounded by the Alps before making the transition onto the bike.

They then tackle a 90km bike course through the surrounding mountain landscape, with the climbing and rolling terrain providing one of the major tests of the race.

The final leg is a 21.1km run, which is considerably flatter and takes the athletes around the lake and through Zell am See before they reach the finish.

The combination of an Alpine bike course and fast run has helped make Zell am See-Kaprun one of the most recognisable events on the European IRONMAN calendar.

When is IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun 2026?

IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun takes place on Sunday, August 30 in Austria.

Live coverage is scheduled to begin at 10:30am CEST.

The professional men's race is scheduled to start at 11am CEST, with the professional women beginning five minutes later at 11:05am CEST.
