IRONMAN Kalmar 2026 results: Laura Philipp and Jonas Schomburg claim stunning victories

Laura Philipp and Jonas Schomburg produced two remarkable performances as Germany celebrated a double victory at IRONMAN Kalmar.
The latest stop on the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series saw Philipp dominate the women's race in Sweden, finishing almost 19 minutes clear of defending champion Katrine Christensen and setting a new course best in the process.
Schomburg delivered an equally impressive performance in the men's race, overturning a deficit of more than four minutes after the bike with a superb marathon to claim the first IRONMAN victory of his career.
His winning time of 7:22:57 was also among the fastest ever recorded over the distance, capping a memorable day of racing in Kalmar.
Laura Philipp dominates women's race at IRONMAN Kalmar
Philipp entered the race as one of the favourites, but initially had ground to make up after the opening 3.8km swim.
Rachel Zilinskas set the pace in the water, completing the swim in 49:17, while Philipp emerged more than three minutes further back alongside fellow contender Jackie Hering.
It did not take long for the 2024 IRONMAN world champion to make her move once the race reached the bike.
Philipp erased Zilinskas' advantage during the early stages of the 180km course before moving into the lead and beginning to put distance between herself and the rest of the field.
By the time she reached the second transition, Philipp had established a lead of more than five minutes over defending Kalmar champion Christensen.
Any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished on the marathon.
Philipp completed the run in 2:52:57 and continued to increase her advantage before crossing the line in 8:13:37.
That gave Philipp victory by 18 minutes and 45 seconds over Christensen and established a new women's course best in Kalmar.
Hering completed the podium in third, while Jenny Jendryschik and Leonie Konczalla ensured three German athletes finished inside the top five.

Jonas Schomburg wins first IRONMAN title
The men's race produced another German victory, although Schomburg had to come from behind to earn it.
Schomburg was among the leading athletes out of the water before quickly moving to the front at the start of the bike.
The complexion of the race changed when Sweden's Robert Kallin surged into the lead during the 180km ride.
Kallin produced a superb 3:53:12 bike split and entered T2 with an advantage of more than four minutes over the chasing pack, which included Schomburg and Matthew Marquardt.
But Schomburg transformed the race during the marathon.
The German rapidly cut into Kallin's advantage and moved into first place during the opening section of the run.
Once ahead, there was no catching him.
Schomburg completed the marathon in 2:34:36 before crossing the finish line in 7:22:57 to secure his maiden IRONMAN victory.
The performance put him within two minutes of the fastest full-distance finish ever recorded and established a new course best in Kalmar.
Marquardt finished just over five minutes behind Schomburg in 7:28:28, narrowly beating Switzerland's Andrea Salvisberg to second place.
