IRONMAN Lake Placid 2026 results: Marten van Riel and Paula Findlay claim victories

Marten van Riel and Paula Findlay claimed impressive victories at IRONMAN Lake Placid, with the Belgian producing a dominant solo display and the Canadian enjoying a dream debut over the full IRONMAN distance.
Van Riel's victory strengthens his position in the IRONMAN Pro Series standings, while Findlay announced herself as an immediate contender at the sport's longest distance.
Van Riel wasted little time making his intentions clear, attacking early on the bike before opening a decisive gap over the chasing pack.
The Belgian never relinquished control of the race, carrying his advantage into the marathon where he produced the fastest run of the day to cross the finish line in 7:41:57.
American Matthew Marquardt finished second in 7:46:11, while Ben Kanute completed the podium in 7:58:23.
Jason West claimed fourth, with Rudy Von Berg rounding out the top five.

Paula Findlay could hardly have scripted a better first appearance over the full IRONMAN distance.
The former Olympian and multiple IRONMAN 70.3 winner spent much of the bike leg locked in a battle with Spain's Marta Sánchez before taking control heading into the marathon.
Once on the run, Findlay steadily increased her advantage to secure victory in 8:47:43, completing a memorable debut at the distance.
Sánchez finished second in 8:51:30, while American Rachel Zilinskas completed the podium.
